Mogadishu (Bandhiga Media): A 10-year-old girl died in Galdogob district in Mudug region of Somalia, after undergoing a fatal procedure of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), this becomes second case in a September 2018.
Suheyr Qorane Farah succumbed to complications and excessive bleeding after undergoing an FGM procedure along with her sister Zamzam, who is also suffering from the complications of FGM.
The two sisters underwent the procedure 17 days ago in remote pastoral village of Tuur-dibi near Galdogob district, according to their relatives’ confirmation to GECPD.
The doctors who are trying to stabilize the condition of ZamZam Qorane Farah, aged 7, confirmed that the equipment used to carry out the procedure exposed the girls to the complications.
The tragic incident comes few days ago when two sisters bled to death in the Bursallah village, after undergoing FGM procedure.
For most girls in Somalia, the severe form of the circumcision is performed when they are between the ages of four and eleven. The operation is often done by untrained midwives using knives, razors or glass.
